Easter Nest Recipe

Whether you’re looking for a cute dessert for a family Easter gathering, or just an afternoon activity with the kids, these little nests are sure to be a hit.

Cadbury Mini Chocolate Eggs are my choice for this perfect, easy Easter dessert, but you could also use another option like Whoppers Robin Eggs or even jelly beans.

Symbolism of the Easter Egg

In pagan cultures, eggs were a symbol of fertility and rebirth. However, for Christians, Easter eggs have taken on a variety of symbols and representations of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Good Housekeeping states that early Christian missionaries would dye eggs with colors that had different meanings to the church, also sometimes adding pictures or messages to them.

If you are making these treats with your kids, you could talk about some of the different color meanings as you place the eggs on the nests.

What You’ll Need

This Easter nest recipe will take you about 20 minutes for prep time, and an additional 15 minutes for the Easter nests to set. It yields about 10 treats if you follow the easy recipe below.

Here’s what you’ll need to gather before you begin:

  • 2 ½ cups shredded Wheat cereal
  • ½ cup peanut butter

Making This Perfect Easter Treat

First, you’ll melt the peanut butter and semi sweet chocolate in a mixing bowl in the microwave at 30 second intervals.

Once the melted chocolate mixture is smooth, pour the shredded wheat cereal into the bowl and fold together until completely coated.

Fill your cupcake pan with cupcake liners, then place a heaping tablespoon of the chocolate wheat mixture into each cupcake liner.

Press the mixture into the liners with the back of a teaspoon and create a well in the middle of each wheat mixture. This will emulate an eggs nest and create space for the Cadbury Mini Eggs later.

Place these in the freezer for 15 minutes.

While they’re hardening, put some green food dye in a plastic bag and add the shredded coconut. Seal the bag shut and mix with your hands until all of the coconut pieces are green.

Once the chocolate nests have hardened, remove them from the cupcake liners.

Sprinkle a little bit of the green coconut into each chocolate nest, then place 3 Cadbury eggs on top of each nest to finish. Voila!

Store in an airtight container at room temperature until you’re ready to serve.
